Safety Breach: Saskatchewan Construction Company Fined for Worker Injury

In recent developments, Song’s Construction Ltd., a construction firm in Saskatchewan, was fined $24,000 following an incident where one of its workers sustained injuries in a fall. The accident occurred on June 24, 2021, when the worker suffered severe injuries after falling from a formwork foundation wall in Saskatoon. Song’s Construction Ltd. admitted guilt to one violation of the Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, 2020, during court proceedings.

Consequently, the Court levied a fine of $17,142.86 along with a $6,857.14 surcharge, totaling $24,000. The Ministry of Labour Relations and Workplace Safety emphasized that employers are obligated to furnish safe and healthy work environments, alongside providing necessary information, training, and expertise to enable employees to carry out their duties safely, as stated in a press release.

Instances such as this underscore the imperative need for innovative safety measures in Canadian construction sites to ensure worker well-being and compliance with national workplace safety legislation.
